Joseph William “Joe” Frazier – ringname “Smokin’ Joe” — was an American professional boxer, an Olympic gold medalist and undisputed world heavyweight champion, whose professional career lasted for over a decade from 1965 to 1976. Frazier’s most exciting and memorable fights were against the greatest — Muhammad Ali.
When he died, Frazier wanted his Olympic Gold medal to be cut up into 8 pieces, and have each piece given to 1 of his 8 children.

Former middleweight world champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez official announced his retirement from the sport of Boxing during the Hall of Fame weekend in Canastota, New York this week.
“It’s time to step aside and continue on to new horizons,” Martinez said during part of a speech obtained by USA TODAY Sports. “I’m now retired. Thank you very much, hasta la victoria siempre (and to victory always).”
Later, Martinez also touched upon the practical reasons why he hung up the gloves.
“I am a boxer, my knee is shattered. I am 40 years old, I’m getting wrinkles and my hair is falling out. I cannot play a game of soccer with my mates, like when I was a kid, let alone return to fight at the top level” said Sergio Martinez.

Heavyweight prospect “Irish” Mike Perez 21(13)-1-1 is set to take on Russian Heavyweight Alexander Povetkin 28(20)-1-0 in a battle for the WBC Silver heavyweight title this Friday May 22nd 2015. The 12 Round contest takes place in Moscow, Russia.
For American Boxing fans and others around the world, WatchESPN will stream this fight live and air on same-day tape delay on ESPN2. According to ESPN’s Dan Rafael, The WatchESPN stream, which also will include undercard bouts, will utilize commentary from England’s BoxNation broadcast. The ESPN2 replay – which will lead into the Boxcino tournament championships on the series finale of Friday Night Fights – will likely feature have FNF announcers Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas calling the bouts.
